Hypnosis and How it Works
Hypnosis is a natural state of consciousness in which deep physical relaxation is anchored to the receptivity of your subconscious mind. Hypnosis activates an inner calm and focus that triggers a suggestible, receptive, “learning” state – slowing brain-wave frequency down from wide awake (Beta: normal waking consciousness; cognitive processes, reasoning, critical thinking) to that light trance state experienced while watching movies or being intensely focused (Alpha: concentrated relaxation, meditation, hypnosis and Theta: deep meditation and some hypnotic states; seat of emotion; the subconscious). Using hypnosis, we can access our most resourceful states for positive change, growth, empowerment and evolution – reprogramming limiting beliefs and obsolete defense mechanisms and letting go of emotionally traumatic burdens of the past.
Hypnosis makes it possible to change subconscious associations that result in self-defeating behavior patterns. Creating intentional and lasting change requires the alignment of conscious discipline and willpower and the emotional investment of the subconscious mind. This is why where willpower fails, hypnosis works! Access your subconscious to create permanent change by visualizing, imagining and emotionally experiencing a new script for your internal dialogue that is supportive of your goals for change and personal development.
Common Questions about Hypnosis:
What does hypnosis feel like?
-Hypnosis provides a sense of profound physical and mental relaxation and focus; a feeling of inner calm and centeredness that is refreshing and empowering.
Will I do anything I don’t want to do?
-No. Under hypnosis, you will not do anything against your moral or ethical beliefs, and you can come out of hypnosis at any time.
Will I be aware of everything?
-Yes. While under hypnosis you will feel hyper-aware of all sounds and thoughts – though some people who are capable of deep levels of trance may not recall every detail of a session.

About the dog barking and the duck quacking or chicken clucking . . . let it go! That is Stage Hypnotism for entertainment – this is Hypnotherapy for Empowerment! Athletes use hypnosis to train for competition, performers use it to help them focus and corporate executives use hypnosis to manage their stress and artists use hypnosis to unleash creativity. Why shouldn't you?
Hypnosis = Mind Control?
Hypnosis is a normal state of consciousness. You go in and out of hypnotic states several times each day. Some common places you experience natural hypnosis are while riding in or driving an automobile, while watching TV or a movie, and while daydreaming. While in the hypnotic state, the client is always in control and can come out of hypnosis simply by saying his/her own name aloud. In addition, any suggestion that violates any moral, ethic or religious belief will be automatically rejected by both your conscious mind and your unconscious mind. If you want to think of hypnosis as mind control, understand that it is YOUR mind that is in control!
“I don’t think I can be hypnotized.”
Have you ever laughed, cried or shivered in fear while watching a movie?
Guess what? You were hypnotized. Have you ever missed your exit while driving on the freeway because you weren’t really paying attention? You were in hypnosis.
If you can concentrate, you can be hypnotized. Working with a hypnotherapist requires your collaborative efforts and conscious desire for change. You choose to go into hypnosis, access deeper states of receptivity and relaxation, and it is your choice to follow through with all suggestions given to you while you are under hypnosis. If you feel you cannot be hypnotized, you must understand it is because you choose not to cooperate – perhaps there is a fear of losing control. In this case, guided imagery and cognitive therapy methods can be used as an alternative, with equal success.

About NLP: Neuro-Linguistic Programming
Apart from my certification in Hypnotherapy, I am also a Master Level Practitioner of NLP, which is my specialty. NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming, a modality based on the modeling of excellence.
This model assumes that each of us is 100% successful in creating whatever results in life we have now, and that we are all operating the best we can, according to the beliefs, skills and attitudes we have inherited, learned or adopted.
NLP focuses on “how” we are where we are, rather than “why,” and also assumes that the strategies we use to achieve the results we have currently, that we can restructure and reorganize our strategies and create more desirable results for ourselves – and it’s all based on how we code our thoughts, intentions and desires from our sensory input (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc.) and create “maps” of our experiences and project these maps onto our world as our reality. Our inner thoughts, strategies and beliefs about ourselves and the world are triggered by our internal language. If our inner dialogue is not motivating us to believe in our own abilities or possibilities, then we can change these thought patterns to be more supportive of our goals.
As we pay more attention to our language, we can use it more effectively to enjoy our life experiences, achieve our goals, and build better personal and professional relationships by improving our skills of communication. We can also discover more options and solutions to problems more quickly, as well as create and access optimally resourceful states of mind.
A few of the presuppositions of NLP are:
People are not their behaviors. None of our problems, conflicts, beliefs or behaviors are immutable characteristics. We can assume that as long as someone’s thoughts can change, they can also change.
The law of requisite variety. He/she who is most flexible, who can generate the most options of behavior, who can see more than one perspective, is the one who can control the system, simply by being the most adaptable.
There is no failure, only feedback. This is a wonderful reframe and reminder for all of us that each experience is a learning opportunity, even and especially those experiences that teach us not only how improve or refine our efforts, but also how to recover from disappointed expectations graciously.
If you aren't getting the response you want, do *something* different. If we can discover our patterns and strategies for creating results for anything we do (even something as simple as discovering our internal strategy for making a decision to buy something or take action), we can create improve or change our strategies so that we get the result we want. That is, if you aren’t getting what you want right now, what could you do differently that might achieve the most desirable result?
NLP is a set of mental techniques and exercises that I help facilitate and teach you to do yourself. An adjunct to NLP, Timeline Therapy, is also a very powerful tool to help you release old limiting beliefs, learn from past mistakes and turn them into strengths, as well as decrease and eliminate fears, phobias and negative emotions.
Because NLP is based on modeling success, you will find many successful people using NLP trainers and coaches within corporations and the professional sphere, as well as within artistic circles of excellence. NLP is for people who wish to take charge of their results, and believe that they can, right now.
