No, I'm not feeling morbid today. I'm feeling inspired. And one thing that is sure to inspire you to action - is recognizing that the body you're living in has an expiration date.
I'm into studies of transhumanism, extropy and other life-extension possibilities, but there are realities of mortality that cryogenics can't solve. This Death Clock calculates, based on age, being a smoker, and BMI - an estimated date of death, but it doesn't take into account other factors that affect longevity - like stress, carcinogenic EVERYTHING, alcohol and other drug-consumption, and the wild card factors like plane crashes (my boyfriend in 2003 died in one), car accidents, drive-by shootings, etc.
The purpose of death is to remind us to appreciate LIFE.
- My good friend, Terence "Terry" Freitas, died in 1999 at only 24 years old, murdered in Colombia for his work protecting the U'wa tribe of the Colombian rainforest
- My Papa, Antonio De Jesus, died in 2003, of a heart attack in Manila. He was 53.
- My boyfriend Barry Jacobs, died in 2003, after his private plane crashed, leaving him in a coma for a week before his body just gave up.
- My paternal grandfather, Avelino De Jesus, died in 2003, after a long struggle with emphysema and Alzheimer's Disease
- My paternal grandmother, Emilia Concepcion De Jesus, died in 2004, after many years of heart complications
I've done my grieving. I've received their gifts and transferred energies. I hold them in my heart as I move forward with my life. And I bless each day that I have to live, to grow, to learn, to share, to love and to maximize every gift of talent, understanding, sentience and skill I have acquired through birth or experience.
So today, as I grapple with my own decisions of how I'm going to spend my time and energy, I give thanks for my departed loved ones, who still whisper to me, guiding me, and with each sharp twinge of missing them, I honor them by living as fully as I can.
Calculate your own day of death, if you dare. When you consider how much time you might have left, think of what you want to experience, contribute and achieve in the time you've got - and begin today.
If you are ready to be an intentional agent of change for your own life and longevity - think of the changes you can make to your life holistically - for your health, your heart, your spirit. What do you need to change or let go of to bring more balance, health and energy into your life?
